Chapter 4: Looking-Glass Self p.106- The notation that the self develops through our perception of others' evaluations and appraisals of us.
In this series, Buffy often struggles with her role as a slayer, friend, and big sister. She is an ordinary girl in her town until she learns that she has a gift, to hunt and kill vampires and demons. Everyone in her town considers her as an hero. They believe she is very loyal and brave to do what she does to help save their town. Buffy simply does not care what others think of her because she believes she is doing everyone a favor by keeping all the vampire and demons away. When she looks in the mirror she sees someone who is brave and willing to risk her life to save the people of her town.
Agents of socialization p. 106- Social groups, intuitions, and individuals that provide structured situations in which socialization takes place.
These are all of Buffy's friends and her family so they are considered her agents of socialization. They help and support her decision of being a vampire slayer. They will be with her every step of the way mo matter what happens.
Chapter 6
Deviance p.153.-is a behavior, trait, or belief that departs from a group.
Positive Deviance p.172-actions considered deviant within a given context but are later reinterpreted as appropriate or even heroic.
Buffy practices positive deviance when she hunts and kills vampires. People might think she is deviant, but she actually becomes the town hero.
Crime and Demographics-Gender. p.171-males are more likely to commit a crime.
In this case, Buffy is a female and she is the one who is performing crime by murdering vampires and Demons.
Chapter 8
Minority p.221- a group that's smaller in numbers than the dominate group.
Buffy is an minority in her town because she is the only one who is a vampire slayer.
Race p.217-a socially defined category based on real or perceived biological differences between groups of people.
Buffy is racist against vampires and demons.
She will do everything she possibly can to eliminate the criminals of her town.
Chapter 10
Monarchy p.282- A government ruled by a king or queen, with succession of rulers kept within the family.
Buffy is not the queen of her town, but she is the chosen one to hunt vampires and demons.
She is the only one in her family who is a vampire hunter, so it wasn't carried down to her.
Education p.294- is the central means by which a society transmits its knowledge, values, and expectations to its members.
Buffy went to school at Sunnydale Highschool. She tried to live her teenage life as normal as possible, but all was impossible when there are deadly killers out there and her town is at risk.
She was trained and taught by the school librarian, who was also a professional killer, to learn how to fight against and destroy vampires and demons.
Chapter 7
Heterogamy p.202- Choosing romantic partners who are dissimilar to us in terms of class, race, education, religion, and other social group memberships.
Buffy practices heterogamy when she falls in love with a vampire, Angel. she understands she is not supposed to fall in love with her enemy, but Angel is different, even though he is a vampire, he is against his own kind and very much in love with Buffy.
